David Carter

David began his career at DTZ Tie Lung in 1994 and after qualification, moved to Drivers Jonas where he specialised in investment agency and debt funding.

 

In 1997 he joined Babcock & Brown, the Australian Investment group, as a founding member of the UK real estate team. He initially focused on UK PFI/development transactions helping to create a £750m plus portfolio which was subsequently listed on the LSE in 2006.  From 2002 he helped expand the team’s property investment activities and over three years raised equity for four unlisted UK real estate funds with assets totalling £150m. In 2004 he identified the growing opportunity in Central Europe and helped establish the Central & Eastern Europe real estate team, subsequently acquiring assets totalling £250m, including investment assets in Poland, Czech republic and the Baltic states and a number of development schemes across the region including Turkey.

 

David was a board director of a number of Babcock & Brown’s investment vehicles and was a Managing Director of the Group’s  European investment holding companies in Malta. His core skills include fund raising, transaction origination, investment analysis and transaction execution. David qualified as a Chartered Surveyor in 1995 and was educated at London Southbank University and Hughes Hall, Cambridge.

Mark Bowden

Mark commenced his career with Houston Lawrence, the specialist Covent Garden surveying firm, in 1993 he was involved in the development of Industrial Securities, a joint venture between Houston Lawrence and Marcol specialising in development and asset management of industrial properties throughout the UK. 

 

Mark joined The iO Group (subsequently TeeslandiOG, now Valad Property Group) in 1998 to work in the UK asset management team progressing in 2001 to the establishment of a European Asset Management platform.  He became Director of European Asset Management in 2005 and was responsible for €3.5bn assets under management by 2008.   His two principal funds (Euroind High Income & European Industrial Partnership) showed average returns of 16% since inception with assets acquired throughout France, Germany, The Netherlands and Denmark during 2001-2006, representing in excess of 1.8M sq.m and 150 transactions.

 

Mark specialises in active asset management, property performance analysis, investor/client reporting and business process reengineering to obtain maximum efficiency in the property asset management operation.   He is a qualified Chartered Surveyor and studied to Masters level in International Property.

Philip Stott

Philip commenced his career at DE&J Levy in 1993 working in investment acquisition, asset management and disposals. He moved on to GVA Grimley specialising in retail shopping centre development and asset management. Philip has established a strong background in investment transaction origination and completion, asset management (in all sectors) and development.

 

Whilst at GVA Philip recognised the strong advantages Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) brought to his work and  began to focus more on bringing this capability to the fore in property and fund management.  In 2003 Philip joined Yardi, the leader in Fund and Asset Management Systems in the USA at the time, to help establish its activity and grow the business in the UK and Europe. He has worked closely  with many Pan European and Global funds and as a result of Philip’s efforts Yardi has moved from being a minor provider into being the market leader in Europe.

 

This background gives Philip a truly unique and diverse skill set to adopt operational efficiency in the transaction process, fund and asset management, investor relations and equity raising.    Philip is a qualified Chartered Surveyor.

Michael Newman

Michael qualified as a Chartered Certified Accountant in 2001 whilst at Marks and Spencer where he worked in the group’s international business and was responsible for the set-up and operation of the German finance department and the consolidation of group international results. He then moved into property finance and joined Taylor Woodrow where he managed the accounting and financial analysis of the high end residential joint ventures.

 

In 2003 Michael joined fund management house Valad Property Group (formerly The io Group) as Head of European Fund Accounting. He established the department and formalised the multi jurisdictional fund consolidations and investor analysis of their European institutional funds. In addition he was involved in a series of refinancings.  This was instrumental in bringing forth a period of extensive growth of the European operation with total assets under management increasing by €3.5bn.

 

Michael brings extensive experience in accounting, debt and equity management, tax structuring, fund modelling, strategic fund analysis and fund management reporting.

James Ward

After qualifying in 1996, James joined the iO Group (now Valad Property Group), where he was an Asset Manager, concentrating on the leasing and management of intensive multi-let secondary industrial estates. From there he moved to Reit Asset Management (now F & C Reit), to become their industrial/business space specialist concentrating on the acquisition and management of the industrial/business space portfolio which was in excess of £200 million.


In 2001 James became a Director of Asset Management for the Pinton Portfolio, not only specialising in industrial and business space but shopping centres as well, responsible for five major centres throughout the UK, with a total portfolio value of £250 million. In 2002 James was approached by Warner Estates to assist and create the Agora Shopping Centre fund. Once established, James took control of another principal fund within Warner, the £350 million Wholly Owned fund. In 2007 James moved to Quintain where he was responsible for the investment portfolio amounting to c. £225 million. For two and half years from 2009, James was Head of Real Estate for Alpine Wealth Management, an investment bank based in Bahrain, Middle East.


Major career highlights to date include: the purchase of Ashtenne Plc (a specialist industrial property company with £800 million under management), the purchase of £150 million industrial portfolio from Morley and the subsequent fund creation (Radial & Bareway), and the purchase of a number of shopping centres including the Palasades Birmingham and The Royals Southend.

James holds an BSc in Estate Management from Sheffield Hallam University.
